Yes — every EngVarta English Expert is qualified to teach English. Most hold internationally recognised credentials such as TESOL, TEFL, or CELTA, and all are trained on EngVarta's internal calibration programme before they take their first learner session.
The credentials our Experts typically hold
- TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) — internationally recognised credential for English-language teaching.
- TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) — globally accepted teacher certification.
- CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) — Cambridge University's internationally recognised teaching qualification.
- Equivalent regional certifications recognised by their training institutes.
What we look for beyond credentials
A certificate alone doesn't make a great Expert. Beyond formal qualifications, we evaluate every Expert on:
- Communication clarity — neutral, clear English that learners across India and internationally can understand.
- Patience with nervous learners — the ability to slow down, encourage, and rebuild confidence in someone who's stuck.
- Real-time correction skill — the judgement to know when to correct, when to let a learner finish their thought, and how to teach a correction without breaking conversation flow.
- Professionalism and reliability — Experts who show up on time, every time, with energy.
Our internal calibration programme
Before any new Expert takes a paid learner session, they go through EngVarta's calibration programme — observing experienced Experts, running shadow sessions with our training team, and receiving feedback on conversation pacing, correction technique, and learner-level adaptation. Only Experts who pass this calibration are added to the active session pool.
Are all Experts native speakers?
Not necessarily — and that's by design. Our Experts come from diverse linguistic backgrounds, all with strong professional English and certified teaching qualifications. Many learners specifically benefit from non-native Experts who've successfully been through the same fluency journey themselves and understand what learners struggle with at a deep level. That said, if you specifically prefer practising with a particular accent or background, simply tell the Expert your preference at the start of the session.
How is quality maintained over time?
Every session you have on EngVarta is rated and reviewed. Learner ratings, session recordings, and ongoing performance feedback feed into a continuous quality loop — Experts who consistently underperform are coached or removed from the active pool. This is why session quality stays consistent regardless of which Expert you happen to connect with.
Can I request a specific Expert?
EngVarta uses a rotating-Expert model by design — practising with different Experts trains your speaking to adapt to different voices and styles, just like real-world conversations. However, if you had a particularly good session with a specific Expert and want to reconnect with them later, open My Recordings, find that session, and tap the call button — our system will prioritise reconnecting you with that Expert if they're available.
