How does an EngVarta session work?

An EngVarta session is a live 1-on-1 audio call with a TESOL/ESL-certified English Expert. You tap call in the app, connect in minutes, and practise real conversation with real-time corrections during the call. Forget classroom-style English lessons: sessions are built around interaction, not theory. Here's how a typical session works, end to end.

How do I start a session?

Open the EngVarta app and tap Call English Expert. You'll be connected with a live English Expert in minutes. No booking, no scheduling, no calendar. Just press call when you're ready, any time between 7 AM and midnight IST.

If every Expert is busy when you call, the app creates a callback request and the next free Expert calls you back, so keep your phone close. If no Expert is assigned in time, the request expires and you can simply call again.

What happens during a session?

Different Expert each session, by design. This is one of the things that makes EngVarta unique: instead of one familiar person, you practise with a rotating team of certified Experts. That mirrors the real world (interviews, client calls and daily conversations all involve different people) and trains your speaking to adapt to different voices, accents, and styles.

You can run the session three ways:

Open and free-flowing. Tell the Expert "I just want a real conversation today", and they'll pick a natural topic or follow your lead. Talk about your day, current events, your work, anything that comes up. The Expert keeps it conversational.
Goal-focused. Tell the Expert what you're working towards, and they'll structure the session for it. For example:
- "I have a job interview on Friday. Let's roleplay HR questions."
- "Help me practise a client presentation I have next week."
- "Let's do IELTS Speaking Part 2 cue cards."
- "I want to focus on accent neutralisation today."
- "Can we practise English for a doctor-patient consultation?"
A mix across the week. Many learners alternate: open conversations on some days, goal-focused practice on others, depending on their energy and what's coming up in their life.

How does the Expert correct my English?

You get real-time corrections during the call. If you get stuck or can't find the right word, the Expert helps. If your grammar slips, they correct it gently, in the moment, while the context is fresh. If your pronunciation is off, they'll show you the correct version and ask you to repeat it. The corrections happen inside the conversation, not as a separate "lesson."

Towards the end of the call, the Expert gives you consolidated feedback on what to work on next. This feedback is spoken, so you can hear it again in your recording.

Prefer to just keep talking? Open Feedback Preference in the app menu (☰) and choose one of two styles:

Corrections during the session, given without breaking your flow, plus detailed feedback at the end.
No corrections during the session, with constructive feedback at the end only.

Who is EngVarta for?

EngVarta is built for learners who already understand English but freeze when they have to speak it. The Expert calibrates the conversation to your level:

Beginners: slower-paced, simpler vocabulary, lots of patient prompts when you get stuck.
Intermediate learners: natural-pace conversation with corrections on the subtle errors you've stopped noticing.
Advanced professionals: fast-paced, idiom-rich, real-world conversation matching what you'll face in international meetings, presentations, and client calls. Tell the Expert "let's go advanced" and they'll push you.

The same Expert pool serves all levels. What changes is how the session is run.

What happens after the session?

Every session is automatically recorded and saved to My Recordings for 30 days. When you listen back:

Note the corrections the Expert gave you. Repeat each correction aloud 4-5 times to lock it into your spoken memory.
Catch your own filler words and hesitations. You'll be surprised what you do without realising.
Try shadow practice. Repeat after the Expert, matching their pace, intonation, and stress patterns. This is one of the most effective methods for reducing mother-tongue influence (MTI), improving voice modulation, and neutralising accent.
