Welcome to EngVarta! π EngVarta is a live 1-on-1 English speaking practice app. You call a TESOL/ESL-certified English Expert for a daily audio session, and use free tools like the vocabulary series, daily quizzes and video lessons in between. Since 2017, 2M+ learners have practised speaking English on EngVarta.
This guide walks you through every feature inside the app: what it does, how to use it, and how it fits into your daily practice. Take your time with it. You don't need to master everything on day one. Start with one daily session plus one or two of the learning tools, and build from there.
Let's go. π
Before anything else: what does a plan unlock?
A plan unlocks your daily live sessions with English Experts. The vocabulary series, daily quizzes and video lessons are free.
Tap Plans & Pricing on your dashboard to build your plan. You choose your session length, how many sessions you want, and the time window to complete them in. Shorter plans are a good way to start. Longer plans give you more sessions to build a steady daily habit. See How do I purchase a plan? for the step-by-step video.
Now let's explore what's inside
1. Call an English Expert ποΈ
This is the heart of EngVarta. Tap Call English Expert and you'll be connected in minutes with a TESOL/ESL-certified English Expert for a live 1-on-1 speaking session. Sessions are audio only, so you never need a camera. Experts are there to talk with you, not lecture at you. They give you real-time corrections during the call, suggest better words, and share consolidated feedback towards the end, so you build real speaking confidence.
2. Conversation Preference π―
Before your first session, tell the app what you're working on. A final-year student preparing for HR interviews has a very different need from a mother practising casual fluency, or a working professional preparing for client calls. Set your Conversation Preference once (your learning goal plus a short note), and every Expert sees it before your session starts. That way you don't have to re-explain yourself each time.
3. Rating and Feedback β
After each session, a quick prompt asks you to rate your network quality and your Expert, and to leave a short comment. It's quick, and it helps us understand how each session went. If you miss the prompt, you can leave feedback later from My Recordings.
4. Recordings π§
Every session is recorded and stays in My Recordings for 30 days. Play sessions back, hear where you hesitated, and notice which phrases you keep using over and over. A good habit: listen to the day's recording before bed and repeat key lines after your Expert (shadow practice).
5. Rejoin π
If your call drops because of a network blip, don't worry. A Re-Join the Session prompt appears for about a minute. Tap it and you're right back with the same Expert, continuing the same conversation. No re-introducing yourself, no losing your flow.
6. Phone Call (telecom fallback) π
On a particularly flaky network? You can take your session over a regular phone call through your telecom operator instead. Switch with the App Call / Phone Call toggle on your dashboard. If a call drops, you can also rejoin the same Expert by phone. Your phone number stays private. (Available for learners in India; your operator's standard rates apply to outgoing calls.) It means your practice doesn't stop just because your Wi-Fi did. Read more in Introducing Phone channel to connect with expert.
7. Customer Support π¬
Need help with anything, like a plan question, a connection issue or a setting you can't find? Tap Customer Support on your dashboard, then Talk to our support team. Our team is available 7 AM to midnight, every day.
8. Assignment Practice Tool βοΈ
Want to walk into your next session sounding sharper? The Assignment Practice Tool gives you a speaking prompt. You speak on it in your own words for about 2 minutes, and the app's AI shows you a polished version with better phrasing, stronger vocabulary and more natural expressions. The idea isn't to memorize anything. It's to feel inspired by how your ideas can sound, and bring that energy into your next live session. Learn more in How the Assignment Practice Tool works.
9. Video Vocabulary Series π
Three new English words a day, six days a week, with the seventh day for revision. That's 18 new words every week, taught in short real-context videos with pronunciation, example sentences, and how to actually use them in conversation. Watch each day's video fully to unlock the next one the following morning. The series is free, and these are the kind of words you'll naturally reach for in your next session.
10. Daily Quizzes π§
Short, free quizzes test your grammar, vocabulary and comprehension in a fun, pressure-free way. Quizzes are structured across difficulty levels, so they stay challenging as you grow. Complete them to earn reward coins, which you can later redeem for a discount on your plan.
11. Rewards π
You earn reward coins for daily activities (the quiz, the vocabulary series and AI assignment practice), for weekly activities, when you reach a certificate milestone, and when you renew your plan. Use your coins for a discount on your next plan. Practise more, pay less. That's the idea. See Daily Activities to Earn Reward Coins for details. Referral coins are a separate balance, covered in the Referral section below.
12. Milestone Certificates π
EngVarta issues milestone certificates based on your total hours of live practice with Experts. You unlock a certificate at 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 hours of practice, as long as your plan is active and you've had a session in the last 30 days. Set your certificate name in the app so it can be issued. Choose carefully, because the name can't be changed later. You'll find your certificates under Certificates on your dashboard.
A certificate recognises your practice hours. It isn't an exam result or an accredited qualification. It's a nice one for your LinkedIn profile, a portfolio, or just your own wall. You earned it.
13. Batch Selection β°
Choose the hour of the day when you'd like to practise (β° β My Batch). Selecting a batch gives you priority access to Experts during that hour, and the app reminds you when your batch starts. Pick whichever batch matches your real-life schedule: early morning before work, late evening after dinner, whenever you know you'll actually show up.
14. Pause Plan βΈοΈ
Life happens: exams, travel, work deadlines. Pause your plan from β° β Pause Plan. Pick the date you'll be back and a reason. Your validity stops while your plan is paused, and your remaining sessions stay safe. Your plan resumes on the date you chose, and if you're back early you can resume it yourself in the app. Your progress doesn't have to stop just because your week went sideways. See How can I pause my current plan? for the steps.
15. Referral π€
If EngVarta is working for you, share it with a friend. Tap Invite Friends on your dashboard and share your link. You earn 250 referral coins (βΉ25) when your friend takes the refundable trial, and 5,000 referral coins (βΉ500) when they buy a plan within 7 days of signing up. Only new accounts count. Withdraw your referral coins as cash or use them toward your plan. Practising alongside a friend can also help you both stay consistent. Read more in What is the EngVarta Referral Program?
16. Daily Video Lesson π¬
A short, free daily lesson on one specific topic: a grammar rule, a pronunciation pattern or a fluency tip. Quick enough to fit into a coffee break, focused enough to actually stick.
17. Network Quality Test πΆ
Before an important session, open β° β Network Quality Test to check that your connection is strong enough for a smooth call. It only takes a moment and saves you from mid-session surprises.
18. Daily Call Limit π
Each plan comes with a daily call limit so your practice stays steady, balanced, and sustainable. Short, consistent daily reps beat long occasional marathons every time.
19. Call Quality ποΈ
A few small tweaks help you get the cleanest possible audio on your sessions:
- Practise from a quiet place.
- Use a stable Wi-Fi connection.
- Use earphones or a headset. If the audio still breaks, unplug them and check whether it improves.
- Close other apps running on your phone, especially on an older phone.
Still having trouble? Run the Network Quality Test, or switch to a phone call if you're in India. More tips in How to Improve call Quality?
You're all set β¨
That's the full tour. Here's the honest secret: you don't need to use every feature. Consistency is what builds speaking confidence: daily Expert sessions plus one or two of the learning tools you enjoy most.
So the habit that matters most is showing up daily. Even 15 minutes. Even when you don't feel like it.
Welcome to EngVarta. We're excited to be part of your journey. π
