If you practise regularly, you can start to see progress within the first month, and your fluency keeps growing over the next few months. Learners who practise daily typically report meaningful improvement in fluency and confidence. Your own pace depends on where you start, how often you practise and the effort you put in.
What usually happens when I practise regularly?
Here is what the journey usually looks like when you practise most days. Everyone moves at their own pace, so yours may be faster or slower.
- In the first week: you get used to speaking English out loud and to how sessions work. It is normal to hesitate or get stuck at first. Your English Expert helps you find words.
- After about a month: you start to see real progress. In your fourth week, compare a recording from your first week with a recent one, and listen for the difference in your pace, confidence and word choice. Recordings stay in the app for 30 days, so don't wait too long.
- Over a few months: this is when fluency really builds. With steady practice, speaking starts to feel natural and takes less effort.
Why is progress different for each learner?
Every learner starts at a different level and practises at a different pace. Effort between sessions matters too, such as listening to your recordings and doing your assignments. That is why steady practice matters more than anything else, and every session moves you forward.
How can I get the most out of my sessions?
- Practise every day. Consistency is key to building spoken fluency.
- Set your goal. Tap Conversation Preference on your dashboard and add your learning goal, so your Expert can guide each session around it.
- Use your feedback. In each session you get real-time corrections during the call and consolidated feedback towards the end. You can change this style in Feedback Preference in the app menu (☰).
- Listen to your recordings. Every session is recorded, and you can listen back in the app for 30 days. Repeat key lines after your Expert (shadow practice).
- Do your assignments. Your Expert leaves assignments after your sessions. Between calls, use the free daily vocabulary lessons and quizzes in the app.
How many sessions do I need?
There is no single right number for everyone. Choose a plan that fits how often you can practise. You build your own plan in the app from Plans & Pricing on your dashboard. When you build your plan, you choose:
- Session length: 15 or 25 minutes. 15 minutes suits quick daily practice, and 25 minutes gives you a longer conversation. When you renew, you can also choose 50 minutes. If you are new and want longer sessions, contact Customer Support.
- Number of sessions: if you are new to EngVarta, you can choose up to 75 sessions. Plans with more sessions, such as 150 or 300, are offered only when you renew. If you need more than 75 sessions, contact Customer Support.
- Validity: the number of days you have to finish your sessions. By default you get about one day of validity per session, so plan to practise daily.
You can start with a smaller plan and renew or upgrade at any time. The app shows the price of your plan before you pay.
To contact Customer Support, tap Customer Support on your dashboard. Our team is available from 7 AM to midnight IST, every day.
If you need a break, you can pause your plan from the ☰ menu and resume later. See How does Pause Plan Feature work?
If you need more days to finish your sessions, you can buy a validity-only pack from the Plans & Pricing screen in the app. A validity-only pack adds days, not sessions. It is available only while you still have sessions left in your current plan. You can also upgrade to any regular plan, and the sessions left in your current plan carry forward to it.
